Beatport organises virtual event to promote mental health

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Last weekend online music store Beatport organised a 24 hours virtual festival on Twitch. The event featured a number of well known DJ’s and speakers. The goal was to promote good mental health and shine a light on mental issues caused by the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Between the sets of Adam Beyer, Archie Hamilton, Angie Vee, Boys Noize and Junior Sanchez, there were education segments. These segments were about how one can protect and enhance their mental health and general well being. For instance by psychotherapist Dr Aida Vazin, breathwork expert Stuart Sandeman and sleep coach Tom Middleton. Beatport CEO Robb McDaniels had this to say about the event:

“These are trying times for our industry. Now more than ever taking care of ourselves – our minds, our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others – is truly vital. Mental health has been one of the most talked about topics in our industry for years, and this is a global topic that should continue to be discussed and destigmatised. Everyone at Beatport takes this topic very seriously and will continue to bring visibility to it”

Beatport teamed up with When the Music Stops to organize this livestream. Which is a non-profit organisation focused on providing mental health support for people in the dance music community. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic the organisation has been very active to provide both visitors and people working in the industry with the help they need.

For everyone that missed the event, you can re-watch all the performances and talks on Beatports Facebook. With the success of the first edition and overall good receptions of the previous Beatport live streams, it's safe to say we can expect more of them to be organised in the future.
