Last Sunday MTV organised the 26th Europe Music Awards. Just like many other awards shows this year, the performances were shot in different places around the world without an audience. This year K-Pop group BTS were by far the biggest winner, winning three awards.
BTS won four awards; best group - for the third year in a row -, best song for their hit "Dynamite", the new best virtual live show award and the biggest fans award. The last one was won by their fans, who posted millions of videos with the hashtag MTVEMABTS on Instagram, outnumbering the other fan bases with ease. BTS won the biggest fans award for the third year in a row, making them the top winners in the history of the category.
The second biggest winner of the night was singer-songwriter Karol G, who took home best collaboration with her track Tusa ft. Nicki Minaj. She also won the newly established Best Latin award. Another new award this year was Video for Good, which is awarded to an artist who stood up for an issue using their music video. H.E.R. won with the video for "I Can't Breathe", which revolved around the Black Live Matter protests.
Cardi B won best Hip-Hop artist this year. She is the second female artist to win this award, the first one was Nicki Minaj, who won the award five times. The best new act award went to Doja Cat, making it the fifth consecutive year a female solo artist has won this award. Lady Gaga took artist of the year, just as she did at the MTV Video Music Awards. The award for best electronic artist went for David Guetta, who won the award for the third time. Only The Prodigy has won this award more times, four times.
