Updated: Mar 3, 2021

BCC's Radio 1’s Breakfast show will organise the first ever Lockdown Awards at the end of this year. The show will be hosted by well known Radio 1 host Greg James and will include a number of different award categories.

The “Lockdown Awards” will be held on the 26th of November. During the show Greg James will look back at his favourite moments in music of the past year and present a number of awards. The categories will include Favourite Live Performance -, Biggest Zoom Fail - and Fitness Inspiration of the Year. James will pick the nominees and eventual winners himself.

The show will also shine a light on some of the young unsung heroes of 2020 as part of the station’s annual Teen Heroes celebrations. Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1 wrote in a press release:

“In what has been an incredibly tough year for us all, many young people around the UK have found themselves facing new and previously unprecedented challenges. Although we always look forward to the Teen Awards, we hope the Radio 1 Lockdown Awards will provide a fitting alternative this year as Greg, with a little help from the listeners, helps us reflect on the past twelve months in true Radio 1 Breakfast style.”
