Lauryn Hill makes history as the first female MC to achieve diamond

Lauryn Hill has made the groundbreaking achievement of going diamond as the first female MC in American history. On February 17, the RIAA announced, through Twitter, that her debut album "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill" sold over 10 million copies. The album became critically acclaimed after its release in 1998, selling over 400.000 copies in its first week and hitting number one in the charts. The release established the career of the female MC as a force to be reckoned with, and has now granted her this legendary achievement.

"The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill" spawned hits such as "Doo Wop (That Thing)" and "Everything Is Everything’, with massive critical success at the time of release. Her debut album granted Misschien Hill 10 nominations and 5 wins at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards in 1999, next to countless other awards such as an American Music Award and Billboard Music Awards in the same year.

The news was revealed on February 17, by the RIAA - the company that represents the recording industry in the United States - through Twitter. Lauryn Hill, who was also a member of hip-hop group Fugees, took to social media to react to her achievements in a post stating:

“Pretty wonderful to know that this album continues to bring happiness to people.”
