Aphex Twin sells crypto artwork for $128,000

Aphex Twin has sold a graphic artwork in NFT form for a Ethereum currency equivalent to roughly $128.392,56. The sale by the artists - a.k.a. Richard D. James - is the latest sale of the controversial NFT format, that works on the same blockchain technology as crypto currency. Announcing his entrance to the digital marketplace, James announced on Twitter that he would spend “a portion of the money on planting trees and either donating to permaculture".

Like Aphex Twin's NFT, most NFTs are part of the Ethereum blockchain. Ethereum is a cryptocurrency, like bitcoin or dogecoin, but its blockchain also supports these NFTs, which store extra information that makes them work differently from a regular Ethereum coin, turning them one of a kind. NFT can be anything digital like; pictures, music or a program, but currently there is much excitement around using the tech to sell digital art.
