Boss GT-1000CORE a HX Stomp killer?

It seems like the  GT-1000CORE from Boss is a direct answer to the Line 6 HX Stomp. The new Boss unit crams in over 140 unique amps and effects, as well as a built-in looper, all the tech us guitarists crave, with also a dedicated mode for bass guitar.

The unit uses the Boss AIRD technology which “delivers natural feel and optimised integration with all types of external devices” the same Boss has used it on its flagship GT-1000 units.

Compared to the HX Stomp, the GT-1000CORE has a larger screen than the HX Stomp, which should make it easier to navigate. The overall layout also looks like probably has the fastest switching between all patches of any unit on the market, including Line 6, Kemper, and all the rest.

Key Features

  • The same tone processing as the flagship GT-1000

  • Two different amps with series/parallel routing options

  • 24 simultaneous effects blocks

  • 32-bit AD/DA, 32-bit floating-point processing, and 96 kHz sampling rate

  • AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) technology

  • Has all the classic BOSS effects, vintage stomps, plus MDP effects, and algorithms from the DD-500, MD-500, and RV-500 pedals

  • Ultra-fast patch switching, with delay carryover

  • Stompbox feature simplifies using all the common effects

  • USB audio/MIDI interface

  • Built-in Looper

  • High-resolution tuner with both mono and polyphonic displays

  • Two send/return loops for external effects, perfect for four-cable method, or can be used as separate direct outputs

  • 16 onboard user IRs

When compared to the HX Stomp, we know that a lot of its effects are modelled on original Boss pedals, so the GT-1000CORE has the upper hand here. Next to that, the ultra-fast patch switching and delay carryover, should mean there is no lag which can be an issue when playing in a band. If this is true, this means we can go crazy and develop tons of crazy patches to use live or in the studio with no creative ceiling. It also has the obligatory USB audio/MIDI interface to integrate easily into your DAW setup.

Also, it looks like Boss could come out on top here with its killer new GT-1000CORE after the first reviews hit the web. Be sure to check it out during your next gear haul.
