Fyre Festival’s Billy McFarland launches podcast from prison

Updated: Feb 11, 2021

Billy McFarland, the Fyre Festival guy, has launched a podcast called "Dumpster Fyre", which he wants to use to tell the story of the failed festival from "all sides". The first episode was released a few days ago and featured an interview with McFarland, who is currently in prison.

The Fyre Festival was a failed music festival in the Bahamas in 2017, it failed because of horrible mismanagement and misunderstanding of the work large scale event takes. It was marketed as a high end, once in a lifetime experience for rich young adults. It ended up being a debacle, the organisation failed to set up even basic infrastructure and chaos followed. Billy McFarland eventually ended up in prison for defrauding investors of the festival.

Billy McFarland was the first guest on his new podcast, he claims to regret his actions and said:

“I hurt many people, and I’m aware of the pain and suffering that I’ve caused. What I did was completely wrong and stupid. Not only did I harm people financially, I know that I violated their trust. I let them down. And I’m truly sorry about that”.

The podcast will reportedly feature different people involved in the fiasco in an effort to "show all sides of the story". Who will be interviewed for upcoming podcast is unclear. But given Billy McFarland's shady past, it's possible the podcast will not show the full truth.
