Moog Claravox Centennial Theremin: The ultimate hands-free instrument

Moog releases a luxurious limited-edition theremin to celebrates its 100th anniversary, the Claravox Centennial. The limited-edition theremin retained its simplicity while also adding new features to a limited edition model that’s designed to celebrate the theremin’s past, present and future.

Bob Moog started building theremins back in the ‘50s, and the brand is marking 100 years of the gestural electronic instrument with the launch of the Claravox Centennial Theremin. Leon Theremin invented his eponymous instrument back in 1920 and eventually became beloved for its eerie sound that turned it into a staple in countless TV and movie soundtracks.

The Claravox Centennial is designed to be the ultimate instrument for performing thereminists, named after Clara Rockmore, the original theremin virtuosa, and offers both Traditional and Modern modes of operation. This means that you can choose between heterodyne analogue oscillators and multimode DSP oscillators (sine, triangle, saw, wavetable) with assignable scales, quantisation, and octave ranges. They also added an analogue wave-shaping circuit derived from the Moog Etherwave Pro and a built-in analogue BBD delay.

The Claravox Centennial gives players a lot of calibration freedom and control, with DIN MIDI, USB, and CV inputs and outputs. Players can also instantly recall their favourite sounds and settings with the included front-panel preset storage. Next to that, the Claravox also includes pitch quantisation and scale selections to help educate newer players, with a dedicated software editor to further expand the instrument’s control and sonic capabilities.

The look and feel of the instrument offers brass antennas, cloth-bound control panels, and a fine-grain walnut hardwood cabinet with the option for a luxury Claravox Centennial Theremin Stand.

The Claravox Centennial Theremin isn’t a budget, mass-market instrument and will be in production for a limited time. Pre-orders will open today and shipping will begin in December. The Claravox will be sold for € 1.650,00. Find out more on the Moog Music website.
