YouTube and the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) have formed the Save Our Stages Initiative in an effort to support independent music venues throughout the US and raise money for the NIVA Emergency Relief fund.
The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), was created by different music industry insiders in March 2020 to combat the devastating effects of the pandemic on live entertainment. The NIVA is now teaming up with YouTube under the name “Save Our Stage Initiative”. Together they will deliver one-of-a-kind programming aimed at bringing live performances back to music venues with proper health and safety measures.
YouTube will also help raise awareness and funding for the NIVA Emergency Relief fund, which is used to support vulnerable music venues. The fund is intended to work together with federal and local programs assisting those venues who are in immediate need. When asked about the NIVA Emergency Relief fund, Stephen Sternshein, co-founder and treasurer of NIVA responded:
"With the support that we have at Congress on both sides of the aisle, we are hoping for a relief package but in the interim, many venues need ff so we've created funding now and this is a way to provide financial relief so that venues don't have to close their doors"
