Sustainability & Responsibility

We plant trees to compensate our carbon footprint and because we love trees! Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
One Tree Planted's projects across Asia are helping rebuild the habitat of critically endangered species like orangutans, tigers, and more than 1,700 species of birds. These projects are creating jobs and providing sustainable, long-term income for communities so people and forests can live together in harmony. Learn more about our projects and help support reforestation in Australia, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines.

Our amazing partners in Indonesia will work to ensure balance is restored both environmentally and economically. Planting will gradually restore the ecosystem, improve habitat for biodiversity, sequester carbon, and fight climate change. It will also provide local farmers with livelihood, reducing deforestation pressure and allowing them to reap long-term benefits.

Sustainable fashion, responsible choices
It’s our goal to become more sustainable, and we’re learning every step of the way.

Our products are made-to-order
Made-to-order is making a difference in traditional retail and taking a step towards sustainable and responsible fashion production.
In traditional made-to-sell retail stores, products are made in large quantities and often exceed market demand. Around 85% of all textiles produced by the fashion industry end up in landfills, making it a major contributor to environmental damage.

By choosing our print-on-demand shirt, you would be making a more sustainable fashion choice —no more settling for mass-produced apparel. Instead, you can have products with a personal touch.
Since we fulfill our products only when a customer buys them and we produce less waste than traditional made-to-sell retail stores, our closet's clean. Sub-Base products are created using the made-to-order production approach. We warehouse only the products customers actually want and don't throw our leftover stock into landfills.
Reducing carbon emissions
We have facilities on both US coasts—in Charlotte, North Carolina and Los Angeles, California—to route orders where we can fulfill and ship them as fast as possible.
There's a fulfillment center in Mexico, and one in Latvia for our European orders as well. To improve order fulfillment in Europe, we’ve opened a facility in Spain.
We're looking into new ways to make the best of our resources and reduce the CO2 produced when transporting orders, therefore we've opened our fulfillment centers close to the customers.

Eco-friendly products
We want to give our customers reliable, quality products that are also kind to the planet.
We currently offer options for eco-friendly apparel. Our eco-friendly product collection is growing along with the needs of our environmentally-conscious customers. One of our goals for 2020 is to expand our eco-friendly product catalog. We're also working on optimizing our cut & sew production line to reduce the leftover fabric scraps.

Responsible production
Most of the printers we use in production are energy-efficient: they use less electricity, water, and chemicals than standard industry printers. The main printing method we use is DTG (direct-to-garment), a more sustainable choice over other apparel printing methods, like screen printing.
DTG works with inkjet technology: the water-based ink is sprayed onto the garment, helping the ink soak in better. DTG has no color count, and this printing method works well even for the most elaborate designs. For our paper prints, like framed posters, we use Epson ink that has a low environmental impact.
We dispose of our inks according to supplier guidelines to avoid harming the environment. To give you the best quality, we constantly upgrade our printers and have already invested $37M in printing equipment.
Our journey toward sustainability starts with people—the core of the company. We encourage responsible thinking and work on creating a positive environment around us.
